The movie

The biographical drama film about hip-hop artist Tupac Shakur is directed by Benny Boom and written by Jeremy Haft, Eddie Gonzalez and Steven Bagatourian. The title takes after  Shakur’s 1996 fourth studio album of the same name which was released on Feburary 13th, 1996.The movie film stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Shakur and Kat Graham, Lauren Cohan, Hill Harper, and Danai Gurira in supporting roles. Benny Boom said in an interview that when he first saw a picture of Demetrius Shipp Jr, he thought it was a photo of Tupac himself. Rappers EDI Mean and Young Noble from Tupac’s group the Outlawz are playing themselves and the rest of the group are played by actors. Demetrius Shipp Jr.. had to lose 18 pounds to portray Tupac Shakur. The film chronicles the life and legacy of Tupac Shakur, including his rise to superstardom, as well as his imprisonment and prolific, controversial time at Death Row Records.

Tupac Shakur began his career as a roadie, backup dancer, and MC for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist. Shakur’s songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, and other social problems. Shakur was a vocal participant during the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers, and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and the label Bad Boy Records.Apart from his career in music, Shakur also starred in various films and TV programs in the 1990s, including Poetic Justice,  Gang Related (1997) and Gridlock’d (1997).

On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot at an intersection in Las Vegas and taken to a hospital where he died six days later on September 13, 1996 at the age of 25
